Managed Payroll Lead - Multi-State Operations

We are seeking an experienced Managed Payroll Lead to oversee payroll operations across a diverse portfolio of clients in a dynamic HR technology consulting environment. The successful candidate will manage end-to-end payroll processing for multiple client organizations across various payroll cycles (weekly, bi-weekly, semi-monthly, and monthly). Key responsibilities include performing payroll audits, data validation, and compliance reviews while serving as a trusted advisor for client payroll inquiries and issue resolution.

This role requires partnership with HR and Finance stakeholders to support employee lifecycle events, compensation updates, and payroll adjustments. The position involves ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local payroll regulations, preparing comprehensive reporting and reconciliations, and supporting year-end activities including tax documentation and audit preparation.

The ideal candidate will identify process improvement opportunities to enhance delivery consistency, scalability, and client experience. Cross-functional collaboration with implementation, operations, and client success teams is essential for supporting new client transitions and ongoing managed services.

Mentoring junior payroll consultants and sharing best practices is a key component of this leadership role. The position requires staying current with payroll legislation, compliance updates, and technology trends while serving as a subject matter expert in client discussions and business initiatives.

Required qualifications include 5+ years of hands-on payroll processing experience in multi-state environments, prior payroll leadership experience, and strong knowledge of payroll tax regulations and wage compliance. Certified Payroll Professional (CPP) certification is strongly preferred.
