Automation Controls Engineer (Experienced)

We are seeking an experienced Automation Controls Engineer to lead the development of control systems for robotic automation used in spacecraft production. This senior-level position involves designing and commissioning complex control architectures that support high-precision manufacturing and test operations within a highly collaborative engineering environment.

The successful candidate will design, build, and deploy PLC-based control systems and robotic automation solutions for advanced manufacturing projects. Key responsibilities include owning control system design, writing IEC 61131 compliant PLC code, developing HMI and SCADA interfaces, integrating industrial robots, leading commissioning at production sites, and supporting troubleshooting of automated systems.

This technical leadership role requires mentoring junior engineers, coordinating cross-functional engineering efforts, and ensuring compliance with safety and industrial standards. The position involves developing electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and I/O documentation, while overseeing the build of control panels to ensure compliance with electrical and safety standards.

Candidates must have deep expertise in PLC programming using structured, well-documented code in languages including Ladder, Structured Text, Function Block, Sequential Function Chart, and Instruction List. Experience with PLCs from major manufacturers such as Allen Bradley, Siemens, Beckhoff, or Mitsubishi is essential. The role also requires proficiency in integrating and programming industrial robots from leading manufacturers including Fanuc, ABB, KUKA, Yaskawa, or Universal Robots.

Additional responsibilities include developing motion control logic and communication links between robots and PLCs, leading onsite installation and validation of automation systems, performing root cause analysis, and training maintenance and production teams. The position requires ensuring compliance with ISO, IEC, NFPA, and CE standards while contributing to project documentation, planning, and risk management.
