Principal ATLO Engineer - Spacecraft Assembly, Test and Launch Operations
We are seeking a Principal ATLO Engineer to lead spacecraft assembly, test and launch operations across multiple satellite programs. This is a unique technical leadership role combining 50% hands-on engineering work with 50% team leadership responsibilities.
The successful candidate will have extensive experience building spacecraft end-to-end, ideally across multiple satellite types. You will lead spacecraft-level assembly from hardware arrival through final integration, working directly in cleanroom environments while guiding engineering teams through complex build flows.
Key responsibilities include overseeing integration of avionics, structures, propulsion interfaces, and mechanical assemblies. You will serve as subject matter expert for environmental testing including EMI, TVAC, vibration, and shock testing. The role involves leading troubleshooting efforts during test campaigns, supporting failure review boards, and resolving critical non-conformances.
Launch integration activities include preparing for launch site operations, overseeing integration to launch vehicles, and coordinating end-to-end readiness tasks with mission partners and launch providers. You will shape production processes for high-rate satellite builds, focusing on improving throughput, reducing build hours, and eliminating waste.
The position requires strong technical leadership skills including mentoring ATLO and integration engineers, acting as signature authority for quality system updates, and supporting design reviews. You will contribute to proposal development, documentation, and standard operating procedure creation.
This role demands deep spacecraft experience, strong engineering judgment, and the ability to oversee complex production flows. The ideal candidate understands small satellite production, high-rate builds, and has significant experience with hardware integration, test execution, and troubleshooting across spacecraft programs.
Location is onsite in El Segundo, California, with active TS/SCI clearance required.
